Buzzpole, a leading medical ICT company that developed ‘Serviclinic AI’, an artificial intelligence-based remote diagnosis system for cervical cancer is now seeking to expand its AI-based diagnosis system along with entering the Chinese and overseas markets which is currently limited to cervical cancer, to various fields such as cerebrovascular.
Recently, when talking about the 4th industrial revolution, there is an item that always appears in the healthcare field. It is artificial intelligence (AI), and is also a field that is said to be promising in the future along with the importance of domestic health and medical big data. In Korea also, ambitious companies are challenging this field, and Buzzpole is one of these companies.
Buzzpole (co-representatives Jaehoon Jeong and Seongwon Choi) is a medical ICT company established in 2014. The company have developed hospital marketing solutions using beacons and artificial intelligence-based cervical cancer remote diagnosis systems. Buzzpole, made up of AI experts from Interpark and Cheol-soo Ahn Research Institute, is growing
the company with the motto of 'Enhancing human life based on the 4th Revolution technology'.
Cervical cancer is the second most common female cancer, and it is a dangerous disease with a high cure rate if diagnosed early, but a high mortality rate if detected late. In addition,
it is a disease that requires regular examination at least once a year even for healthy women, so pre-examination is important. ‘Cerviclinic A.I.’ developed by Buzzpole is CDSS (Clinical Decision Support System) for cervical cancer. In other words, it is a platform that improves the accuracy of screening when diagnosing cervical cancer at a front-line medical
institution.
‘Cerviclinic A.I.’ developed by Buzzpole is recognized more quickly overseas than in Korea. The company introduced a remote system so that women in remote areas of China who are relatively far away can receive examinations from cervical cancer doctors in large cities, and entered the Chinese market in earnest by establishing a joint venture with an investment group in Hunan Province, China. On 4th of July, Buzzpole agreed to establish a joint venture with Zhongze Group in Hunan Province, the only medical healthcare pilot area in China. In addition, it is receiving love calls from markets in need of cervical cancer, such as Vietnam and Thailand in Southeast Asia, as well as the Czech Republic in Eastern Europe.
In particular, the establishment of a joint venture with the Zhongze Group is expected to be a catalyst for advancing into China. China's Zhongze Group, established in Hunan Province, China in 2006, is an investment company specializing in construction, medical, education, international trade, financial investment, artificial intelligence, and pharmaceutical
distribution. By signing a letter of intent for joint venture with the Zhongze Group, Buzzpole intends to enter the Chinese business in earnest with an initial investment of 20 million
yuan ($3 million).
Buzzpole said, “Due to this joint venture, we plan to commercialize the service through partnerships with 2,000 hospitals from the initial start together with the Hunan Province, the
Zhongze Group and the Hunan Province Medical Device Association.”
In this way, the fact that the domestic system has not yet been established on the other side of Buzzpole's spotlight abroad also plays a role. Buzzpole explains that there are many
institutional regulations that cannot yet be commercialized for CDSS systems combined with artificial intelligence in Korea. In the KFDA (Food and Drug Administration) certification
stage and new medical technology certification, there is no case that has been certified and commercialized so far. Also explained that there are many institutional restrictions that
prevent the use of medical data for research purposes in improving the performance of artificial intelligence by transforming medical data into big data.
Buzzpole has already considered the Chinese market and overseas markets in the first place, considering this reality in Korea, and has been collaborating with overseas medical big
data, including research activities.
As such, Buzzpole, which is being reborn as a specialized medical ICT company, plans to expand its AI-based diagnosis system, which is currently limited to cervical cancer, to various fields.
They have already signed an MOU for collaboration with overseas medical AI companies and are in the process of conducting research overseas, as well as AI diagnostic systems
related to gastroenterology, as well as solutions related to children's growth. Through this, we are developing a solution that has been proven with overseas AI technology
development know-how and big data, and is preparing to commercialize it right away when regulations in the domestic AI medical market are eased.
In addition, they are focusing on technology development that can save people's lives by jointly conducting AI research related to cerebrovascular vessels that requires precise
diagnosis with domestic general hospitals.
Buzzpole said, "We are looking forward to commercialization in the domestic medical market with good technology and good products that have been recognized overseas."
